It is with great sadness that the family of Rod Alexander are sorry to announce that Rod died last Thursday (11th February) on his 56th birthday.

Rod’s funeral will take place this Friday (19th February) at 11am at St James Parish Church, Christleton.

Rod was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer – a relapsing, unremitting cancer of the bone marrow, in July 2013 and commenced treatment the same day.

The technical sales representative underwent seven months of chemotherapy at The Countess of Chester Hospital, followed by a stem cell transplant at The Christie in Manchester.

Rod was determined to raise the profile of myeloma and warn people about the importance of early diagnosis. 1 in 5 people diagnosed with myeloma die within 60 days and one study estimates that 97% of people have never heard of the disease.

He embarked on a project to raise awareness of the condition and fundraise for MYELOMA UK, the only charity in the UK dedicated to funding research into new life extending drugs and supporting patients, their families and friends.

Rod died just a few days after beating his fundraising target of £60,000 and was grateful to everyone for their support in his fundraising efforts.
